Back to the blog list

What is it all about?

The Birgu festival is a cultural treat! The Birgufest (Birgu Festival) 2019 celebrates culture and art, and takes place in Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa), which is one of Malta’s oldest and most historic cities. The old city overlooks the beautiful Grand Harbour.

The spectacle lasts the whole weekend, and visitors can enjoy a variety of experiences such as, historical re-enactments and dinner by candlelight in the delightful town square. Candles light up all the streets, and chandeliers hang in the streets. Music is also played that adds to the feel of the place.

What can you do?

The festival commences this Friday on the 11th of October, and you will have the chance to enjoy the atmosphere, and enjoy the local cafes, as well as seeing some museums.

On Saturday the 13th October you can see the spectacular evening Candle lit City, and enjoy the local cultural seen. Well-known performers in Malta will performer in the streets and will make all the streets entertaining.  Concerts in churches and street musicians will be found on many street corners, which adds to the atmosphere.

Sunday is a good day to go with the family. You can spend the whole day seeing places of interest, experiencing mass in one of the churches, as well as eating at one of the many bars, restaurants and cafes in the city core or on the seafront. You can also go to De Borgo, which is a fantastic wine bar not too far from the seafront.
