Tuition

When can I start my course?
Courses start on a Monday all year round. Students arriving mid-week are allowed to join upon arrival.

How do I know which course level to join?
We will send you a test by e-mail or fax and when this is returned we will know your level of English.

Can I change my level while in Malta?

Yes, it is possible, however will depend on availability at that time. You will have to speak to our Director of Studies.

How long does my course last?
A booking can be made for a minimum of one week and Private Tuition for a minimum of two sessions per day for one week. Obviously, the longer you stay, the more you will learn.

How much is public transport in Malta?
Maltese buses are very reasonable with a 1 day ticket costing around 1.50 Euro.

How much spending money should I bring with me?
This depends on what you would like to do and buy while in Malta. If your breakfast and dinner are included you would, therefore, only need about 80Euro per week to cover a snack lunch, a few soft drinks, postcards, bus fares and evening entertainment. You will need more money if you enjoy eating in restaurants and plan to buy a lot of souvenirs.

Can I pay by Credit Card?
Yes, but if you prefer to make a deposit, this can be made either by credit card in Euro, or else by bank transfer direct to the school’s account number as indicated on the booking confirmation.

Are credit cards accepted in Malta?
All major credit cards are accepted in most shops and restaurants in Malta. There are numerous ATM machines where you can make cash withdrawals.

What can I do with my spare time?
The school offers a varied, but optional, programme of activities ranging from water sports to cultural excursions. Please refer to our activities page.

How far away from school is am Language Studio’s accommodation?
All our accommodation alternatives are about a 10-15 minute walk or bus ride away from school. During the high season, journey times can be slightly longer due to an increase in traffic.

How do I get from the airport to my accommodation?
Transport from and to the airport is offered on request. If you do not wish to book a transfer from the school, you may catch a bus or take a taxi from outside the airport.

How will I find my way to school on the first day?
If you book a transfer with the school our driver will hand you a Welcome Pack upon meeting you at the airport. This will contain, amongst other things, a detailed map of the area.

What does Half Board (HB) and Full Board (FB) mean?
If you book half board you will be entitled to a continental breakfast and dinner, whereas full board includes a packed lunch as well.

If I need a Visa, how do I obtain one?

Where can I change money?
In the arrival hall at the airport you will find an exchange office to obtain Euro and there are many others around the main tourist areas. All banks and exchange offices accept most currencies. If you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact us

 

Accommodation

Can I book accommodation only, no course?

Yes this is possible.

How can I get the key from my apartment if I arrive at night or weekend?

Our representative will be contacted by your taxi driver on the way to your apartment and will be waiting for you with the key and also will give you a brief explanation about the rules in the apartment.

 

Teaching Method  – FAQ

How will I learn English?

You will practise speaking, listening and reading English immediately and throughout your course. Written exercises will help you remember what you have learnt. Using the language will give you more confidence and help develop your fluency.   Your teacher will guide you when you make mistakes and this will help you express yourself correctly.  By focusing on communication, our courses will help you increase your ability to speak and understand English. As a school specialising in teaching English as a foreign language we know that every person’s needs are different.  We promise to help you in areas you need it most and to follow your progress both during and, when requested, also after your stay.

How will I be placed in a class?

We determine your level with the help of the Placement Test and place you in class according to your your level: Beginner (A1), Elementary (A1/A2), Pre-Intermediate (A2/B1), Intermediate (B1), Upper-Intermediate (B2), or Advanced (C1). It is important that you are comfortable at your level so as to maximize results.

What are lessons like?

The lessons are fun and interesting with a lot of communicative activities involving pair work, group work, discussion, role-play and debate. There is a good balance of grammar and vocabulary development. Click here to find out what our students’ say!

What will my teacher be like?

Most of our regular teachers have been teaching with am Language Studio for at least eight years. Each teacher comes with his or her own set of experience and style of teaching. All our teachers are dedicated to their students and take a genuine interest in their needs and interests.  Your teacher will encourage you, guide you and support you on your journey to improve your communication skills in English.

Will I be put in a class with people of my same nationality?

am Language Studio attracts students from all over the world, so our classrooms are truly International!  Listening to a variety of speakers of English will increase your ability to understand different accents and pronunciation, which will help you on your journey towards global English.

How can I improve my English outside of lesson time?

Your teacher will show you how to use the language lab, which you can also use outside of lesson time for further study. We encourage you to read in English books, which you can borrow from our library. Some of the books come with a CD, so you will be able to listen to the stories as well as read which helps to improve your listening skills. When lessons are over, you can join our leisure programme and meet up with your classmates and other students. This will give you even more opportunity to continue to practise your spoken English.

How can I continue to improve my English when I go home?

Learning a language is like exercising a muscle. If you do not practise, you are likely to forget what you have learnt. We offer a Distance Learning Programme where you can continue to practice with your teacher when you go back home on the internet or on the phone.
